All We Need is Here

Firstly, please know I have been thinking of you all. I started the school year working two days a week as the Mindfulness Coordinator in the school here, in Abu Dhabi where Richard is working, too. A new role I had advocated for, and most definitely a new role within education. As of November 1st, I also took on a full time teaching position in a grade four classroom. It’s been all-go since then!

I have been giving ...

What’s Here Now?

Whatever it is – do that.

Simultaneously simple and challenging, like mindfulness itself, because in any given moment there can be numerous things on the go. So, in that conundrum, I have been practicing with choosing the thing that is most effortless; or contains the least amount of struggle. What is referred to in Taoism as “Wu Wei”, or an “effortless, efforting” as  my teacher explains it. This may seem obvious to some, but for me, I continuously ...

Pause for Zen

“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day — unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.” -Zen proverb

I first heard this proverb many years ago, and was painfully aware that I didn’t follow it…even though knowing it, should’ve meant I knew better, and to actually do it.

But ...

A Light Touch

It doesn’t have to be profound. Only honest and good enough. Showing up lovingly and being the best mother, wife, teacher, and friend I can be on any given day, in any given moment, amidst the challenge of constantly changing conditions and circumstances is what is required. This is what has been at the forefront of practice for me of late: softness and fluidity.

I have a strong tendency towards striving for perfection, and then it’s inevitable counterpart ...

Short and Sweet

I remember reading a BBC article a year or so ago (sorry, tried to find it again but couldn’t) explaining that there is scientific evidence that the expansion of the universe and therefore, time itself, is speeding up. Certainly feels that way – or maybe it’s just as I age!

Either way, there never seems to be enough time. I’m ...

Clarity

In the weeks since my last post, I have continued to place an infinite amount of faith, trust, and confidence in myself and my practice-life. After reconnecting with family and friends over the holidays, visiting my favourite place on the planet; the desert (and on a full moon to boot!) and settling once more into a rhythm of life and a brand new year, I truly feel settled.  There’s a shifting and landing that has taken place ...

Where to Begin? Again, I Suppose…

Dear friends,

I wrote the following post almost a month ago but have just posted now. I trust it is divine timing, and that my words and thoughts will help as needed wherever they find you today.

It has been some time since my original post. In that time, as many of you know, we’ve sorted through, organized, downsized (squeezed all our belongings in just seven suitcases, perhaps a future post about that), said our farewells, and packed up ...

Awakened Practices for Every-Day Living…What does this really mean?

My practice began in my early university years; stress, anxiety, and unconsciously living out a standard of perfection that was not attainable, began to take it’s toll. I was unhappy, often. I had always been intrigued by the Eastern wisdom traditions (I randomly picked up and read the “The Tao of Pooh, and Te of Piglet” at the tender age of 20) , and saw the word “relaxation” on a Yoga flyer through the mail that called ...
